Yellowstone

So, I’ve been in the market for a new dirtbike for a little while now.   The WR250F I’ve been on has been a fantastic bike, and I’ve really enjoyed riding it, but it was time to get something a little newer and larger.  My main criteria was a 450 fuel injected bike.  I found a bike up in Rexburg that fit the bill perfectly.  After a little while of deliberation, we decided to go for it.  I was originally planning on making a quick trip up and back to pick up the bike, but as I was looking at the map, I realized that Rexburg was pretty close to Yellowstone which was on our list of things we’d like to do this summer.  So, a road trip was planned.   It would be a quick trip up, but sometimes those quick trips are about all the girls can take.  Here we go.

Giggly girls in the car.

One of my favorite memories of Yellowstone was staying in the Old Faithful Inn and marveling at the amazing timber work.  We lucked out and were able to find a room with only a couple days notice.  After looking into it more, people book their Yellowstone trips up to a year in advance, and basically everything is sold out for the whole year already.  So the fact that we were able to get a room was lucky.

One of the best parts of the trip was after we got the girls to bed, Kathryn and I found some great seats in the great hall and just soaked in the amazing architecture.  Just like in my memory, there was a person playing the piano.  This was one of those times when the real thing is even better than your memory.

We had a great day of seeing the sights.  Old Faithful was firing off right on cue.  It’s an amazing sight.

Heading into the hot spring fog on the way to Grand Prismatic Spring.  It was a bit eerie.

Wow, the falls didn’t disappoint either.  You can see there was quite a bit of snow still.  It really made for some fun scenery.  Unfortunately, because of the snow, several of the trails were still closed, but that was okay for us since we only had the one full day.  It will give us something to look forward to when we go back.

When Ashley walked up to this vista, she said with amazement in her voice “Oh. My. GOODNESS!”  I wish I had it on video 🙂

We stayed in West Yellowstone for our next stop.  It was a quick stay.  Here we are ready to head out again towards home.

I’ve driven by Yellowstone Bear World quite a few times, but never ventured in.  Well, it was awesome.  You go to Yellowstone and see the geysers, hot pots, and the vistas, then you come here and see the bears.  Win win.

It is a drive through zoo, so the bears come right up close.  However, unlike the Lazy Five Ranch in Mooresville NC, you have to keep your windows rolled up and your doors locked.

Super rare white elk.

I wasn’t originally in this picture, but I should’ve been.

Such cute little bear cubs.

Drum roll…the impetus for the whole trip loaded on our trailer, ready to come home.  I’m so excited!
