I’m preparing to hike Mount Whitney in September with some friends at work. Mt Whitney is the highest mountain in the Continental United States. No small feat for someone that hasn’t really done serious or even medium serious hiking for like 10 years. As part of our training routine, we hiked Kings Peak…in a day. In the end, it took just under 14 hours, 25.1 miles, and 5077 feet of ascent. It was an experience to never be repeated, at least not for a very long time. I’d make it a two night trip and break it up though. My body held together pretty well, until like the last 6 miles when my knees began to give out and get really sore. By the time we got to the end, I was walking like I had two peg legs. Haha. This was my first time in the Uintas. They are really different than the Wasatch Mountains. Much less rugged, but very high up. All in all, it was a great trip. Looking forward to “bagging” Mt Whitney.
Up at the top of this massive pile of rocks is Kings Peak.
This is scrambling/bouldering up the ridgeline to the peak. You can see little people up ahead if you look closely.
